Day 1: Arrival in Windhoek – Journey to Etosha National Park
Your adventure begins in Windhoek, the capital city of Namibia. After arriving at Hosea Kutako International Airport, you’ll be warmly welcomed by your guide or picked up with your self-drive vehicle if applicable. From here, the journey heads north toward the renowned Etosha National Park—a sanctuary for diverse African wildlife.
Along the way, enjoy scenic views and perhaps a quick stop at Okahandja, famous for its local craft markets. Once you reach your lodge near the park, settle in and enjoy a relaxing dinner surrounded by the sounds of the wild. If time allows, you might enjoy a short sunset game drive to get a glimpse of Etosha’s vast salt pan and early wildlife activity.
Day 2: Full-Day Safari in Etosha National Park
Wake up early for a full day exploring Etosha National Park. Etosha is one of Africa’s top wildlife destinations, home to elephants, lions, giraffes, zebras, rhinos, hyenas, and hundreds of bird species. You’ll spend the day on guided game drives or enjoy self-drive exploration with maps and tips.
Stop at key waterholes where animals gather, and don’t forget your camera—Etosha is famous for its dramatic sightings against the stark white salt pan. At midday, break for lunch at a rest camp, and later return to the lodge for a hearty dinner and an evening around the campfire.
Day 3: Drive to Swakopmund via Damaraland
After breakfast, depart for the quaint coastal town of Swakopmund, located between the desert and the Atlantic Ocean. On the way, travel through Damaraland, a region of rugged beauty, ancient rock formations, and cultural heritage.
Enjoy scenic stops along the way such as the Brandberg Mountain (Namibia’s highest peak), the Twyfelfontein rock engravings (a UNESCO World Heritage Site), and possibly see desert-adapted elephants. Arrive in Swakopmund in the afternoon and check in to your comfortable guesthouse. Spend your evening walking along the beach promenade or dining at a seaside restaurant with fresh Atlantic seafood.
Day 4: Sossusvlei – Dunes and Desert Wonders
Depart early from Swakopmund and travel through the Namib Desert to reach Sossusvlei, one of the most iconic landscapes in Namibia. Along the way, pass through Solitaire, a quirky desert outpost perfect for a photo stop and a famous slice of apple pie.
Check into your lodge near the entrance of Namib-Naukluft National Park, then explore the stunning dunes of Sossusvlei, Dead Vlei, and Dune 45. If time permits, hike up one of the massive dunes for breathtaking sunset views over the desert. End your day with a peaceful dinner under the stars.
Day 5: Sesriem Canyon and Return to Windhoek
On your final morning, visit the nearby Sesriem Canyon, carved over millions of years by the Tsauchab River. Take a short hike to appreciate the natural beauty and geology of the area.
After breakfast, begin your return journey to Windhoek through scenic mountain passes and vast savannahs. Arrive in Windhoek in the afternoon for your flight home or optional overnight stay in the city. Reflect on your incredible journey through Namibia’s wild and wonderful landscapes.
