3 Days Short Gorilla Trekking Safari in Bwindi. This short but powerful safari takes you deep into the heart of Uganda’s most famous rainforest — Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park, home to the endangered mountain gorillas. In just three days, you’ll journey through stunning countryside, trek through ancient jungle, and come face to face with one of the world’s most extraordinary wildlife experiences.
Your safari begins with an early morning pick-up from your hotel in Entebbe or Kampala by your professional driver-guide. After a short briefing about the journey ahead, you will begin your scenic drive to southwestern Uganda, a region known for its breathtaking landscapes and rolling hills.
Along the way, you will pass through vibrant towns, lush banana plantations, terraced farmlands, and beautiful countryside often referred to as the “Switzerland of Africa.” There will be stopovers for lunch and stretching, as well as opportunities to take photos of the ever-changing scenery. As you approach Bwindi, the terrain becomes more mountainous and forested, offering your first glimpse of the dense jungle that shelters the mountain gorillas.
You will arrive at your lodge near Bwindi Impenetrable Forest in the late afternoon or evening. After check-in, you can relax, enjoy dinner, and prepare for the unforgettable gorilla trekking experience the following day.
After an early breakfast, your guide will transfer you to the park headquarters for a briefing by Uganda Wildlife Authority rangers. During this session, you will learn about gorilla trekking rules, safety guidelines, and the gorilla family you will be visiting.
You will then enter the forest in small groups accompanied by experienced trackers and armed rangers. The trek can take anywhere from a couple of hours to most of the day depending on the location of the gorilla family, but the journey itself is incredibly rewarding. You will hike through thick vegetation, cross streams, and navigate steep forest terrain while learning about the park’s rich biodiversity.
Once the gorillas are located, you will spend one magical hour observing them in their natural habitat. Watching them feed, groom, play, and interact at close range is a deeply moving wildlife encounter that few experiences in the world can match.
After returning from the trek and having lunch at the lodge, you may choose to relax or take part in an optional cultural visit to a nearby Batwa or local community. This experience offers insight into traditional forest life, local dances, storytelling, and the cultural heritage of the people who have long lived alongside the forest.
Dinner and overnight stay at your lodge near Bwindi.
After breakfast, you will check out and begin your return journey to Entebbe. The drive once again offers scenic views of Uganda’s countryside, with stopovers for lunch and short breaks along the way.
Your guide will ensure a comfortable and well-timed transfer, with arrival in Entebbe in the evening. You will be dropped off at Entebbe International Airport in time for your outbound flight, marking the end of your unforgettable gorilla trekking safari in Uganda.
