5 Days Gorilla and Chimpanzee Tour in Uganda. The 5 Days Gorilla and Chimpanzee Tour in Uganda is designed for primate lovers who want to experience the country’s two most iconic wildlife encounters: mountain gorilla trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and chimpanzee tracking in Kibale Forest National Park. Along the way, you will also enjoy Uganda’s scenic countryside, crater lakes, and diverse wildlife.
Upon arrival at Entebbe International Airport or after pickup from your hotel in Kampala, meet your driver-guide and start your journey to Kibale Forest National Park. This region is often referred to as the Primate Capital of the World because it hosts 13 primate species, including over 1,500 chimpanzees.
Enjoy lunch en route and take in beautiful views of tea plantations and rolling hills. In the evening, check in at your lodge near Kibale and relax.
Overnight: Lodge near Kibale Forest National Park.
After an early breakfast, head to Kanyanchu Visitor Centre for a briefing before embarking on a guided trek into Kibale Forest. The chimpanzee tracking experience typically lasts 2–5 hours, and once you find the chimpanzees, you will spend one hour observing them as they play, feed, and interact in their natural habitat.
In the afternoon, take a guided Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary walk, where you can spot more primates such as red colobus monkeys, black-and-white colobus, and several bird species including the great blue turaco.
Overnight: Lodge near Kibale.
After breakfast, depart Kibale for Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and home to nearly half of the world’s remaining mountain gorillas. The journey is long but rewarding, offering scenic views of crater lakes, farmlands, and the Virunga Volcanoes.
Arrive in the evening, check in at your lodge, and prepare for the next day’s gorilla trekking adventure.
Overnight: Lodge near Bwindi Impenetrable Forest.
This is the highlight of your safari. After breakfast, report to the park headquarters for a pre-trek briefing by the Uganda Wildlife Authority. You will then set off into the forest with rangers to track a habituated gorilla family.
The trek can last between 2 and 7 hours, depending on the gorillas’ movements. Once located, spend one unforgettable hour in their presence—watching them feed, rest, and interact in their natural environment. Afterward, return to your lodge to relax or take an optional Batwa cultural visit.
Overnight: Lodge near Bwindi.
After breakfast, begin your return journey to Kampala or Entebbe, with a lunch stop along the way. If time allows, you may stop at the Equator in Kayabwe for photos and souvenirs. You will arrive in the late afternoon or evening, marking the end of your primate safari.
