7 Days Big Five and Gorilla Safari in Uganda. The 7 Days Big Five and Gorilla Safari in Uganda offers the perfect blend of savanna wildlife viewing and an unforgettable primate adventure. On this tour, you’ll explore Uganda’s top safari parks, including Murchison Falls National Park for Big Five encounters, Queen Elizabeth National Park for tree-climbing lions and boat cruises, and Bwindi Impenetrable National Park for the once-in-a-lifetime gorilla trekking experience.
Upon arrival at Entebbe International Airport, you will be welcomed by your driver-guide and transferred to your hotel in Kampala. Depending on your arrival time, you may take a short city tour or relax at your hotel as you prepare for the safari ahead.
Overnight: Hotel in Kampala.
After an early breakfast, begin your drive to Murchison Falls National Park, Uganda’s largest protected area. En route, stop at the Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary for rhino tracking—completing your chance to see the first of the Big Five. Continue to Murchison Falls and visit the top of the falls, where the Nile River dramatically squeezes through a narrow gorge before plunging into a thunderous cascade.
Overnight: Lodge inside or near Murchison Falls National Park.
Start the day with a morning game drive across the park’s northern sector, where you’ll see elephants, lions, buffaloes, giraffes, and various antelope species. Later, enjoy a boat cruise on the Nile River, which offers spectacular views of hippos, crocodiles, and abundant birdlife. The boat takes you to the bottom of the falls, giving you another perspective of this natural wonder.
Overnight: Lodge in Murchison Falls.
After breakfast, set off for Queen Elizabeth National Park, Uganda’s second-largest park. The journey passes through scenic landscapes, tea plantations, and rural villages. On arrival, check in at your lodge and relax.
Overnight: Lodge inside or near Queen Elizabeth National Park.
In the morning, head out for a game drive in the Kasenyi plains, where you’ll spot elephants, buffaloes, Uganda kobs, and predators such as lions and leopards if lucky. In the afternoon, enjoy a boat cruise along the Kazinga Channel, which connects Lakes George and Edward. This cruise provides close encounters with hippos, elephants, crocodiles, and over 600 bird species.
Overnight: Lodge in Queen Elizabeth.
After breakfast, drive south through the Ishasha sector, famous for its unique tree-climbing lions. With a bit of luck, you may spot them resting in fig trees. Continue to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, home to half of the world’s remaining mountain gorillas.
Overnight: Lodge near Bwindi.
This is the highlight of your safari. After an early breakfast, report to the park headquarters for a gorilla trekking briefing. With your ranger guides, venture into the forest to track a habituated gorilla family. Trekking may take 2 to 7 hours, but the reward is an unforgettable hour spent in the presence of these gentle giants.
After the trek, begin your journey back to Kampala or Entebbe, marking the end of your 7-day Big Five and Gorilla Safari.
