4 Days Uganda Primate Tour. offered by Kenlink Tours takes you deep into the heart of Uganda’s lush forests to encounter the majestic mountain gorillas and the playful golden monkeys. It’s a perfect short safari for travelers seeking to experience the best of Uganda’s unique wildlife and natural beauty within a few days.
This primate safari focuses on two of Uganda’s most iconic experiences — gorilla trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and golden monkey tracking in Mgahinga Gorilla National Park. Both parks are located in the scenic southwestern region of Uganda, where mist-covered mountains, ancient rainforests, and diverse cultures create an unforgettable atmosphere.
Your journey begins in Kampala or Entebbe, with a scenic drive through the rolling hills of western Uganda. You will pass tea plantations, banana gardens, and rural communities before entering the stunning landscapes of Bwindi. After meeting the gorillas, the tour continues to Mgahinga for another thrilling encounter with the rare golden monkeys.
Your adventure begins early in the morning with a pick-up from your hotel or Entebbe International Airport. You’ll be briefed by your Kenlink Tours guide before setting off for a scenic drive to southwestern Uganda. The journey takes approximately 8–9 hours, but it’s filled with incredible sights along the way.
You’ll have a stopover at the Uganda Equator line in Kayabwe for photos and a brief demonstration showing how water swirls differently in each hemisphere. Then, continue to Mbarara for lunch at one of the top local restaurants. As you proceed, the terrain changes into beautiful highlands and terraced hills that mark the approach to Bwindi.
Arrive at your lodge in the evening, nestled on the edges of the misty forest. Enjoy dinner while listening to the sounds of nature and prepare for your gorilla trekking adventure the next morning.
Accommodation options:
Luxury: Buhoma Lodge / Gorilla Safari Lodge
Midrange: Ichumbi Gorilla Lodge / Bakiga Lodge
Budget: Rushaga Gorilla Camp / Ride 4 a Woman
Meal Plan: Lunch & Dinner
This is the highlight of your safari — an experience that will stay with you forever. After breakfast, you will head to the park headquarters for a briefing from the Uganda Wildlife Authority rangers. You’ll be grouped into small teams and assigned a specific gorilla family to track.
The trek through Bwindi’s dense jungle can take between 2 to 6 hours depending on the location of the gorillas. As you move through the forest, you’ll encounter a variety of birds, butterflies, and primates before finally meeting the gentle giants. Once you locate the gorillas, you will have one full hour to observe and photograph them as they go about their daily lives — feeding, playing, or grooming each other.
Standing just meters away from a silverback and its family is a truly magical experience. After the trek, return to your lodge to relax or take a nature walk through nearby communities to meet the Batwa people, Uganda’s oldest indigenous tribe.

After breakfast, depart for Mgahinga Gorilla National Park, a short 2-hour drive from Bwindi. Mgahinga is the smallest national park in Uganda but holds one of the most fascinating wildlife experiences — tracking the endangered golden monkeys.
Upon arrival, head to the Ntebeko Visitor Center for a briefing. Accompanied by trained rangers, you will hike through the bamboo forest in search of these energetic creatures. Golden monkeys are unique to the Virunga ranges and are known for their bright golden-orange fur and lively behavior. Watching them leap gracefully from one bamboo stem to another is mesmerizing.
After tracking, you may visit the Garama Cave, an ancient lava tunnel once used by the Batwa people as a shelter and meeting place. In the afternoon, enjoy the stunning views of the Virunga Volcanoes that form the border between Uganda, Rwanda, and DR Congo.

The best time for this Uganda primate safari is during the dry seasons — from June to September and December to February. During these months, forest trails are drier and easier to navigate, increasing your chances of a more enjoyable trek. However, gorilla trekking can be done all year round, as gorillas do not migrate.
