Masai Mara Safari Package is perfect for those with limited time, such as international travelers attending a workshop in Nairobi or expatriates with a free weekend. Despite its brief duration, this tour offers a chance to experience the breathtaking wildlife of the Masai Mara. If you visit during the great migration, it could become one of the most unforgettable wildlife adventures of your life.
The Maasai Mara National Reserve, one of Africa’s most popular tourist destinations, has been acclaimed as the 8th wonder of the world. Located in the southwestern part of Kenya within the Great Rift Valley, the reserve spans approximately 580 square miles and is bordered by numerous private conservancies, creating an expansive ecosystem. It connects with the Serengeti National Park to form one of Africa’s premier wildlife conservation areas. Named after the Maasai people and the Mara River, which flows through the heart of the reserve, the Mara provides essential water for wildlife year-round. The landscape is characterized by open savannah, rolling hills, and vast grasslands.
The Maasai Mara National Reserve boasts a remarkable array of wildlife, including the Big Five, numerous herbivores, and a variety of bird species. Wildlife is particularly abundant around the Esoit Olooloo Escarpment of the Great Rift Valley, a remote area with extensive swamps that supply water throughout the year. From July to October, the wildebeest migration brings over 1.5 million wildebeest and zebras to the plains, creating a spectacular natural event. Witnessing the wildebeest crossing the Mara River, the birth of new animals, and the ongoing struggle between predators and prey is a highlight of any safari.
Although this tour lasts only two days, it allows you to experience the best of the reserve. The 2-Day Masai Mara Wildlife Safari starts and ends in Nairobi, with convenient pickup and drop-off at any location in the city. For a more comprehensive tour, including a visit to a Maasai village, we recommend the 3-Day Maasai Mara Tour Package. Our guide will pick you up early in the morning (6:00 am) from your Nairobi hotel to begin the journey to the Maasai Mara. The driver will brief you on the tour details. The route takes you through Narok town and the scenic East African Rift Valley via the Nakuru highway, with short breaks for refreshments and stunning views of the Rift Valley. This natural wonder stretches from Mozambique in Southern Africa to the Middle East. As you traverse Narok County, you’ll encounter many Maasai people, observing them as they graze their animals and go about their daily routines.
You’ll arrive at the lodge around midday for check-in, refreshment, and lunch. After some relaxation, the driver/guide will take you on an afternoon game drive starting at around 2:30 pm. This drive through the reserve offers opportunities to spot cheetahs, lions, elephants, buffalo, giraffes, warthogs, waterbucks, reedbucks, and more. If you visit between July and October, you’ll witness the great wildebeest migration and see zebras, Thompson’s gazelles, impalas, baboons, hyenas, jackals, bat-eared foxes, crocodiles, elands, and hippos. By the end of the game drive at 6:00 pm, you will have likely seen all the Big Five and more.
Dinner and overnight accommodations will be at Enkorok Mara Camp (Budget), Ilkeliani Camp (Mid-range), or Tipilikwani Camp (Luxury).
Wake up early for breakfast before setting off on an early morning game drive. This game drive offers a chance to see the early risers and experience the beautiful African sunrise. It’s an ideal time to observe lions up close as they often move along vehicle tracks in the morning to avoid the wet grass. This game drive will explore a different part of the Mara, providing a new perspective on the scenery, landscape, and wildlife.
After the game drive, the driver will commence the journey back to Nairobi. Lunch will be taken en route, with an expected arrival in Nairobi between 4:00 pm and 6:00 pm. The driver will drop you off at your residence, hotel, or the airport.
