5-Day Gorillas and Wildlife Rwanda Safari. Embark on an unforgettable 5-day journey through the scenic hills and wildlife-rich savannahs of Rwanda. This carefully crafted safari takes you to two of Rwanda’s most iconic destinations — Volcanoes National Park, home to the endangered mountain gorillas, and Akagera National Park, the only Big Five park in the country. You’ll experience thrilling game drives, breathtaking landscapes, and a once-in-a-lifetime gorilla trekking adventure.
Whether you are a wildlife enthusiast, nature lover, or photographer, this safari offers a perfect mix of adventure and relaxation, with accommodations to suit both budget-conscious and mid-range travelers.
Upon your arrival in Kigali, Rwanda’s vibrant capital, you will be welcomed by our professional safari guide. After a short briefing, enjoy a scenic 2.5-hour drive to Volcanoes National Park in the northwestern part of the country.
Along the way, enjoy picturesque views of terraced hills and rural life. Upon arrival, check in at your lodge and relax as you prepare for the next day’s gorilla adventure.
Accommodation Options:
After an early breakfast, proceed to the Volcanoes National Park headquarters for a briefing by park rangers. You’ll then set off into the forested slopes of the Virunga Volcanoes in search of one of the gorilla families. The trek may take between 2 to 6 hours depending on the location of the gorillas.
Once you encounter them, you will have one hour to observe and photograph these magnificent creatures in their natural habitat — a truly life-changing experience.
Return to the lodge for lunch and spend the afternoon at leisure or visit the nearby Iby’Iwacu Cultural Village for a rich cultural immersion (optional).
After breakfast, depart for Akagera National Park, located in eastern Rwanda. The journey takes approximately 5–6 hours, passing through rolling hills, valleys, and rural towns. Arrive in the afternoon and check into your lodge, then enjoy a relaxed evening with views of the savannah or Lake Ihema.
Accommodation Options:
Start your day early with a morning game drive through Akagera’s diverse ecosystems — open plains, woodlands, wetlands, and lakes. Look out for elephants, lions, buffalos, giraffes, zebras, antelopes, and possibly leopards.
In the afternoon, enjoy a boat safari on Lake Ihema, where you’ll see hippos, crocodiles, and a variety of bird species such as African fish eagles and kingfishers.
Return to your lodge for a well-earned dinner and a night under the African stars.
After breakfast, enjoy a final short game drive as you exit the park. Drive back to Kigali with a stop at local craft markets or the Kigali Genocide Memorial (optional, depending on flight schedule).
Our driver will drop you off at Kigali International Airport or your hotel, marking the end of this spectacular gorilla and wildlife safari in Rwanda.
