Our One Week Gorilla and Big Five Safari offers the perfect blend of thrilling wildlife encounters and scenic landscapes. This 7-day itinerary takes you to Uganda’s top national parks: Murchison Falls, Kibale Forest, Queen Elizabeth, and Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.
This safari is one of our most popular packages and ideal for travelers looking to experience the best of Uganda in just a week. Below is a detailed breakdown of what your adventure would look like, what to pack, and how to book.
This combination of Gorilla Trekking and Big Five safari is a unique experience only a few places in Africa can offer. Uganda is one of the only countries where you can see rhinos, lions, elephants, leopards, buffaloes and also trek endangered mountain gorillas in a single trip. From savannah grasslands to dense tropical forests, every day brings a new and exciting landscape.
Your journey begins with a scenic drive from Kampala or Entebbe towards Murchison Falls National Park. Along the way, you’ll stop at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary, the only place in Uganda where you can track rhinos on foot. With the guidance of experienced rangers, you’ll walk close to these majestic animals, an experience that’s both thrilling and humbling.
After lunch, you’ll proceed to Murchison Falls and check into your lodge. Relax in the evening as you prepare for the next day’s game viewing activities.
Your second day begins early with a morning game drive through the park’s northern sector. This is your chance to spot lions, giraffes, elephants, buffaloes, leopards, warthogs, and more. The park’s vast savannah makes it easy to observe wildlife in action.
In the afternoon, you’ll embark on a boat cruise on the Nile River that takes you to the base of the majestic Murchison Falls. Along the way, expect sightings of hippos, crocodiles, and many water birds. The cruise offers fantastic photography opportunities, especially at sunset.
Later, take a short hike to the top of the falls, where the Nile squeezes through a 7-meter gorge with dramatic force. The views and the thunderous roar are breathtaking.
After breakfast, begin your journey southwest to Kibale National Park, famously known as the primate capital of the world. This drive takes you through beautiful Ugandan countryside, tea plantations, and crater lakes.
You’ll arrive in the late afternoon and check in at your lodge near the forest. Enjoy dinner and a peaceful night surrounded by nature.
In the morning, you’ll head into the forest for chimpanzee tracking. Led by an experienced guide, you’ll venture into Kibale’s dense forest, listening for the whoops and screams of these playful primates. Once located, you’ll spend up to an hour observing them in their natural habitat—swinging through trees, feeding, and interacting.
After lunch, you’ll drive to Queen Elizabeth National Park, Uganda’s most diverse and scenic safari destination. Depending on time, you may enjoy a short evening game drive before settling into your lodge.
Start your day with an early morning game drive through the Kasenyi Plains of Queen Elizabeth. Here, you’ll encounter large herds of Uganda kob, buffaloes, elephants, and lions. With luck, you may spot leopards or hyenas too.
After the drive, begin your journey to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, home to more than half of the world’s remaining mountain gorillas. The journey offers stunning views of the Kigezi Highlands and local villages. Arrive in the evening and prepare for the highlight of your safari the next day.
Today is the most awaited day of your safari—gorilla trekking! After an early breakfast, head to the park headquarters for a briefing from the Uganda Wildlife Authority rangers. You’ll then be assigned a gorilla family and set off into the forest.
The trek can take between 2 to 6 hours, depending on the location of the gorillas. Once you find them, you’ll spend a magical one hour observing these gentle giants—watching them eat, play, and care for their young. It’s an emotional and unforgettable experience.
Return to your lodge for a well-deserved rest and reflection on your remarkable encounter.
After breakfast, begin your return journey. You can choose to be dropped off in Kampala, Entebbe, or even Kigali (Rwanda) depending on your next travel plans. The drive is scenic and offers a great opportunity to stop for souvenirs or photos.
