Tour from Kigali covering Bwindi queen Elizabeth Kibale Bunyonyi

Tour from Kigali covering Bwindi queen Elizabeth Kibale Bunyonyi. This 8-day adventure takes you through some of East Africa’s most breathtaking landscapes, starting in Kigali, Rwanda, and ending in Entebbe, Uganda. You’ll explore Kibale National Park, home to playful chimpanzees, and journey through Queen Elizabeth National Park, famous for its diverse wildlife and the Kazinga Channel. Experience the thrill of tracking mountain gorillas in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest and unwind at the serene Lake Bunyonyi. Along the way, enjoy scenic drives, cultural encounters, and unforgettable wildlife sightings. This journey offers a perfect blend of nature, wildlife, and local culture, making it a once-in-a-lifetime safari experience.

Day 1: Kigali to Kibale National Park — Arrival and Bigodi Swamp Walk

Your journey begins in Kigali, Rwanda, where you set off on a scenic cross-border drive into western Uganda toward Kibale National Park. This drive takes you through lush rolling hills, tea plantations, and vibrant local towns, offering a glimpse of the landscapes that connect Rwanda and Uganda.

Arriving at Kibale, check in to your lodge and take some time to relax. In the afternoon, embark on the Bigodi Swamp Walk, a guided nature walk through one of Uganda’s richest wetlands. You’ll encounter various primates, such as red colobus monkeys, and abundant birdlife, including the majestic Great Blue Turaco. This walk is a beautiful introduction to Uganda’s biodiversity and local community conservation efforts.

Day 2: Chimpanzee Tracking in Kibale and Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park

After an early breakfast, join a chimpanzee tracking expedition in Kibale National Park. Led by expert guides, you’ll trek through the tropical forest to observe these fascinating primates as they forage, play, and communicate in the trees. You may also spot other wildlife like L’Hoest’s monkeys, grey-cheeked mangabeys, and countless bird species.

Following lunch, set off on a scenic drive to Queen Elizabeth National Park, arriving in the late afternoon. Check into your lodge, unwind, and get ready for the thrilling wildlife adventures ahead.

Day 3: Game Drive, Kazinga Channel Boat Cruise, and Transfer to Ishasha

Start the day with an early morning game drive in the Kasenyi sector of Queen Elizabeth National Park, where you can spot lions, elephants, buffalo, antelopes, and warthogs. The park is also a birdwatcher’s paradise with over 600 species recorded.

In the afternoon, enjoy a boat cruise along the Kazinga Channel, which connects Lake Edward and Lake George. This two-hour cruise brings you close to hippos, crocodiles, elephants, and abundant birdlife along the banks.

Later, transfer to the remote Ishasha sector in the southern part of the park, famous for its tree-climbing lions. Check into your lodge and rest up for the next day’s safari.

Day 4: Game Drives in Ishasha and Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

Wake up early for game drives in Ishasha, where you have the unique opportunity to spot lions lounging in fig trees — a behavior seen in only a few places worldwide. You’ll also encounter other wildlife like topis, buffaloes, and elephants roaming the open plains.

After the game drive, continue your journey to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site renowned for its mountain gorillas. The scenic drive passes through rolling hills, forests, and local villages. Upon arrival, check into your lodge and prepare for tomorrow’s unforgettable gorilla trek.

Day 5: Gorilla Tracking in Bwindi and Transfer to Lake Bunyonyi

Today is the highlight of your safari — gorilla tracking in Bwindi. After an early briefing, set off on foot with experienced guides to find a habituated gorilla family. The trek may take between two and six hours, depending on the gorillas’ movements, but the reward of watching these gentle giants in their natural habitat is beyond compare.

After this life-changing experience, return to your lodge for lunch before driving to Lake Bunyonyi, often called “the Switzerland of Africa” for its terraced hills and 29 islands. Check in to your lakeside lodge and enjoy a relaxing evening with stunning lake views.

Day 6: Leisure Day at Lake Bunyonyi

Spend a peaceful day at Lake Bunyonyi, soaking in the beauty and tranquility of this iconic lake. You can take a canoe ride to explore the islands, visit local communities, go swimming (no hippos or crocodiles here!), or simply relax at your lodge with a good book. Birdwatchers will be delighted by the diversity of species that call this area home.

This is the perfect day to unwind after the previous days of trekking and safari, allowing you to reflect on your incredible journey so far.

Day 7: Lake Bunyonyi — Cultural Visit and Scenic Exploration

Enjoy a second full day at Lake Bunyonyi, with optional activities to deepen your experience. You may join a cultural village visit to meet local Batwa or Bakiga communities, learning about their traditions, crafts, and way of life. Alternatively, take a guided nature walk in the surrounding hills, rent a mountain bike, or visit the local market.

This extra day allows you to immerse yourself in the peaceful rhythm of the lake and fully appreciate the natural and cultural beauty of southwestern Uganda.

Day 8: Lake Bunyonyi to Entebbe — Return Journey

After breakfast, begin your long but scenic drive to Entebbe, passing through Kabale, Mbarara, and the picturesque countryside of southwestern Uganda. There will be a stop at the Equator line for photos and souvenirs, and you’ll have time for lunch en route.

You’ll arrive in Entebbe in the late afternoon or evening, where you can either catch your international flight or check into a hotel for an overnight stay, marking the end of your unforgettable Ugandan and Rwandan adventure.

Uganda offers online visa applications, but many travelers find it easier to pay (US$100) and obtain a visa upon arrival at points like Entebbe International Airport. For travel into Rwanda and Kenya, it's recommended to apply for an East African Visa.
