Uganda Short Gorilla Safaris. Uganda, famously known as the “Pearl of Africa,” is home to one of the most remarkable wildlife experiences in the world—gorilla trekking. Nestled in the misty highlands of southwestern Uganda are the dense forests of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and Mgahinga Gorilla National Park, where over half of the world’s mountain gorilla population resides. For travelers with limited time, short gorilla safaris in Uganda offer an incredible opportunity to witness these gentle giants up close. At Kenlink Tours, we specialize in crafting exceptional short gorilla trekking safaris that combine adventure, comfort, and cultural richness.
Not everyone has the luxury of extended vacations, which is why our short gorilla safaris are designed to offer the complete experience in just 2 to 4 days. Whether you’re flying in from neighboring Rwanda or already touring within Uganda, our packages are flexible and tailor-made to your schedule. These shorter trips ensure you enjoy the essence of Uganda’s gorilla experience without the need for a long itinerary.
Most of our short gorilla safaris take you to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This ancient forest boasts spectacular biodiversity and is home to more than 20 habituated gorilla families. Trekking through the dense undergrowth and hilly terrain is an adventure in itself. After hours of hiking guided by expert trackers and rangers, the moment you come face-to-face with a gorilla family is truly humbling. You’ll have one hour to observe, photograph, and enjoy these incredible creatures in their natural habitat.
Day 1: Transfer to Bwindi
You’ll be picked up early from Kampala or Entebbe by our professional Kenlink Tours driver-guide. The scenic drive to Bwindi takes you through lush countryside, terraced hills, and traditional villages. En route, you may stop at the Equator line for photos and a quick refreshment.
Day 2: Gorilla Trekking Adventure
After an early breakfast, you’ll head to the park headquarters for a briefing and then set out for your trek. Trekking can take anywhere from 2 to 6 hours depending on the gorilla family’s location. Once you find them, you’ll spend an unforgettable hour observing the gorillas in their natural environment. Later, return to your lodge for relaxation and optional cultural visits to local Batwa communities.
Day 3: Return to Kampala or Entebbe
After breakfast, begin your journey back, arriving by evening. Alternatively, we can arrange for a domestic flight from Kihihi or Kisoro airstrip for those who prefer to fly back.
For travelers interested in a quieter, off-the-beaten-path experience, Mgahinga Gorilla National Park offers a remarkable alternative. Located near the borders of Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo, Mgahinga is home to the Nyakagezi Gorilla Group, which is known for its mobility but has recently become more stable in the park. This park also offers the unique opportunity to combine gorilla trekking with volcano hiking or golden monkey tracking.

Uganda offers online visa applications, but many travelers find it easier to pay (US$100) and obtain a visa upon arrival at points like Entebbe International Airport. For travel into Rwanda and Kenya, it's recommended to apply for an East African Visa.
