Day 1: Kampala to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park

Early Morning Departure from Kampala
Your two-day gorilla safari adventure begins with an early morning pick-up in Kampala, setting off for the southwestern part of Uganda. The journey to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park takes approximately 8-9 hours, depending on the chosen route. Along the way, you’ll experience Uganda’s scenic landscapes, including lush rolling hills, vibrant green countryside, and small villages bustling with life. A stopover at the Equator crossing for photographs and refreshments provides a great opportunity to stretch your legs and appreciate Uganda’s geographical uniqueness.

Scenic Drive Through Kigezi Highlands
As you approach southwestern Uganda, the landscape transforms into the picturesque Kigezi Highlands, often referred to as the “Switzerland of Africa” due to the dramatic terraced hills and misty valleys. This area, known for its cool climate and stunning beauty, is home to the famous Bwindi Forest. Upon arrival, you’ll check into your accommodation near the park, where you’ll enjoy a warm dinner and spend the evening relaxing, preparing for the next day’s adventure.

Day 2: Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi and Return to Kampala

Early Morning Gorilla Trekking Adventure
The day starts with an early breakfast before heading to the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park’s headquarters for a briefing on the gorilla trekking rules and guidelines. After being allocated into small groups, you’ll set off into the dense, misty forest with an experienced ranger guide. Bwindi is home to several habituated gorilla families, and the trek to find these gentle giants can last between 2-6 hours depending on their location. The hike through the forest is challenging but rewarding, as you walk through thick vegetation and cross steep slopes to track the gorillas.

Unforgettable Gorilla Encounter
Once you find the gorilla family, you’ll spend a magical hour observing them in their natural habitat. Watch as they play, feed, and interact with one another—an intimate experience that leaves lasting memories. The close-up encounter with one of the world’s most endangered animals is the highlight of the safari and a profound moment of connection with nature.

Return Journey to Kampala
After the trek, you’ll return to the park headquarters for a certificate of participation before having lunch at your lodge. You will then embark on the return journey to Kampala, with an expected late evening arrival. Along the way, you may stop briefly for snacks or souvenirs to commemorate your incredible two-day gorilla safari.
