3 Days Bwindi Gorilla Trek starting from Kigali. A 3 Days Bwindi Gorilla Trek starting from Kigali has become one of the most convenient and affordable ways to see the endangered mountain gorillas in Uganda. Thanks to the shorter driving distance between Kigali (Rwanda) and Bwindi Impenetrable National Park (Uganda), travelers can enjoy a smooth, fast, and less tiring journey compared to starting from Entebbe.
At Kenlink Tours, we design this 3-day gorilla trekking safari to give you the perfect blend of comfort, adventure, cultural experience, and value for money. Whether you are already in Rwanda or simply want a shorter connection into Uganda, this is the ideal package for you.
Starting your trip from Kigali comes with several benefits:
Shorter Drive Time – About 4–5 hours to Bwindi instead of 9–10 hours from Entebbe.
More Affordable Gorilla Permits – Uganda permits cost less compared to Rwanda, making this route budget-friendly.
Easy Access Through Cyanika or Katuna Border – Both border points offer smooth immigration and quick clearance.
Opportunity to Explore Kigali City – Some travelers choose to add a Kigali city tour before the transfer.
This combination makes Kigali the best gateway for a short Uganda gorilla trekking adventure.
This 3 Days Bwindi Gorilla Trek is perfect for travelers who want:
A short but highly rewarding safari
A comfortable journey with professional guides
Affordable gorilla trekking with Uganda permits
A chance to explore two East African nations in one trip
Your adventure includes a scenic drive through Rwanda’s rolling hills, crossing into Uganda, spending a night in the misty mountains of Bwindi, and an unforgettable encounter with the mountain gorillas on Day 2.
Your safari starts with a warm welcome from our professional guide from Kenlink Tours. Depending on your arrival time, you may enjoy a brief Kigali city drive, passing through the Kigali Genocide Memorial, local markets, and the beautiful clean streets of Rwanda’s capital.
You will then begin your scenic transfer toward Uganda. The drive takes you through the famous “land of a thousand hills,” with breathtaking views of rolling landscapes, villages, and farm terraces. After completing immigration at Cyanika or Katuna border, you continue into Uganda, entering the lush highlands of Kisoro or Kabale depending on the assigned gorilla trekking sector.
Arrive at your lodge in Bwindi in the evening. Enjoy dinner and overnight as you prepare for the big day.
Meal Plan: Lunch & Dinner
Driving Time: 4–5 hours
This is the most exciting day of your safari. After an early breakfast, your driver will take you to the park headquarters for a pre-trek briefing by the Uganda Wildlife Authority rangers. Here you will learn the rules, gorilla trekking etiquette, and the allocation of trekking groups based on your fitness level.
You will then enter the thick, ancient rainforest of Bwindi—home to almost half of the world’s remaining mountain gorillas. The trekking time varies between 1–6 hours depending on where the gorillas nested the night before.
Once you find the gorilla family, you are allowed one full hour to observe, film, take pictures, and enjoy their fascinating behaviors. Watching a giant silverback, playful juveniles, and nurturing mothers is one of the most emotional and unforgettable wildlife encounters in the world.
After your magical hour, you will trek back, receive your trekking certificate, and return to the lodge for relaxation. Optional activities include a community walk, Batwa cultural visit, or a nature walk depending on your energy.
Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
After breakfast, you drive back to Kigali through the scenic hills of southern Uganda and northern Rwanda. Depending on your flight schedule, you may explore more of Kigali before drop-off.
Your safari with Kenlink Tours ends here, filled with unforgettable memories of the mountain gorillas and the beauty of East Africa.
