3 Days Gorilla Trekking Safari In Uganda

Gorilla Trekking Safari In Uganda – Embarking on a gorilla trekking safari in Uganda is a once-in-a-lifetime experience that requires careful planning to ensure you make the most of your time with these majestic creatures. The duration of your safari depends on various factors, including your budget, travel preferences, and availability. Here’s a comprehensive guide to help you determine how many days you need for a gorilla trekking safari in Uganda.

Day 1: Arrival in Uganda

Upon arrival at Entebbe International Airport, you will be greeted by our representative from Kenlink Tours. They will assist you with immigration formalities and transfer you to your accommodation in Kampala or Entebbe, depending on your arrival time. Spend the rest of the day relaxing and preparing for your adventure.

Day 2: Travel to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

After an early breakfast, embark on a scenic road trip to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. The journey takes approximately 8-10 hours, depending on the route and road conditions. Along the way, you’ll pass through picturesque landscapes, rural villages, and lush countryside. Arrive at your lodge in Bwindi in the late afternoon or early evening. Enjoy dinner and rest up for the next day’s adventure.

Day 3: Gorilla Trekking

Today is the highlight of your safari – gorilla trekking! Wake up before dawn for a hearty breakfast before heading to the park headquarters for a briefing by the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) rangers. After the briefing, you’ll be divided into groups and assigned a gorilla family to track based on your fitness level and preferences.

Once you enter the forest with your experienced guide and trackers, the real adventure begins. The trek can vary in duration and difficulty, ranging from 1 to 6 hours depending on the location of the gorilla family. When you finally encounter the gorillas, you’ll have one unforgettable hour to observe and photograph these incredible creatures in their natural habitat.

After the trek, return to your lodge for a well-deserved rest and to reflect on your gorilla encounter. Spend the evening sharing stories with fellow travelers and enjoying a delicious dinner.

Day 4: Departure or Optional Activities

Depending on your schedule and preferences, you can either depart for Entebbe/Kampala after breakfast or opt for additional activities in Bwindi or nearby areas. Optional activities include:

  • Nature walks
  • Bird watching
  • Batwa cultural experiences
  • Community visits
  • Canopy walk in nearby forests
  • River activities (rafting, canoeing)

Additional Considerations

  • Number of Gorilla Treks: Some travelers choose to do multiple gorilla treks on consecutive days to increase their chances of seeing different gorilla families and enhance their overall experience.
  • Budget: Gorilla trekking permits are the primary cost of the safari, so consider your budget when planning the duration of your trip. Longer safaris may incur higher costs for accommodation, transportation, and additional activities.
  • Fitness Level: Gorilla trekking requires a moderate level of fitness, so be sure to assess your physical capabilities before committing to multiple days of trekking.
