5-Day Uganda Big Five and Gorilla Tracking Tour. Embark on an unforgettable 5-day big five and gorilla trekking encounter adventure through the heart of Uganda, known as the “Pearl of Africa.” This carefully curated journey will take you across some of Uganda’s most iconic national parks and reserves, offering close encounters with Africa’s legendary wildlife, breathtaking landscapes, and rich biodiversity. From tracking the rare white rhinos to trekking the majestic mountain gorillas, this tour promises a once-in-a-lifetime experience that blends adventure, conservation, and cultural discovery.
Your journey begins with an early morning departure from Kampala or Entebbe, heading north to the renowned Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary. This is the only place in Uganda where you can encounter wild rhinos, completing your quest to see the “Big Five” (lion, leopard, buffalo, elephant, and rhino). Led by experienced rangers, you’ll track these magnificent creatures on foot, learning about their behavior and conservation efforts.
After an exciting morning, enjoy lunch en route before continuing westward to Kibale National Park. Known as the primate capital of the world, Kibale is home to 13 species of primates, including the famous chimpanzees. Arrive in the late afternoon or evening, check into your lodge, and relax in preparation for the next day’s adventure.
Start the day with an early breakfast before heading into the forest for chimpanzee tracking. Accompanied by expert guides, you’ll venture through the lush Kibale Forest in search of wild chimpanzee families. Along the way, spot other primates such as black-and-white colobus monkeys, red-tailed monkeys, and various bird species.
After lunch, depart for Queen Elizabeth National Park, a scenic drive that takes you past beautiful crater lakes and tea plantations. Arrive at your lodge near the park and settle in for the evening, surrounded by the sounds of the African wilderness.
Wake up early for a morning game drive through the Kasenyi plains of Queen Elizabeth National Park. Here, you have the chance to see the rest of the Big Five: elephants, buffaloes, lions, and if you’re lucky, the elusive leopard. You’ll also encounter antelopes, warthogs, and a variety of birdlife.
In the afternoon, enjoy a midday boat cruise on the Kazinga Channel, famous for its high concentration of hippos, crocodiles, and a wealth of waterbirds. This is one of the best places in East Africa to observe animals up close as they come to drink and cool off at the water’s edge.
After the cruise, set off on a scenic drive to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, arriving in the evening. Check into your lodge, rest, and prepare for the highlight of the tour: gorilla trekking.
Today is the pinnacle of your safari experience in Bwindi National Park — mountain gorilla trekking. After an early breakfast, you’ll meet your guides for a briefing before setting off into the dense forest. Trekking can take anywhere from 2 to 6 hours depending on the gorillas’ location, but the reward is worth every step: standing face to face with a family of critically endangered mountain gorillas in their natural habitat.
Spend a magical hour observing these gentle giants as they feed, play, and interact. After the trek, return to the lodge for a well-deserved rest or a short community walk to learn about local conservation efforts and the Batwa people.
After breakfast, begin your journey back to Kampala or Entebbe, enjoying the scenic drive through Uganda’s rolling hills, farms, and villages. You can choose to be dropped off at your hotel or directly at Entebbe International Airport for your onward flight, bringing your unforgettable Ugandan safari adventure to a close.
