Day 1: Arrival in Kigali – City Tour & Hotel Check-In

Upon arrival at Kigali International Airport, you will be welcomed by an English/French-speaking driver-guide from Lion Safaris. Depending on your flight schedule, you’ll enjoy a Kigali City Tour. The tour includes visits to significant sites such as the Kigali Genocide Memorial, Kimironko Market (the city’s largest local market), and Nyamirambo, the historical birthplace of Kigali.

After exploring the city, your guide will recommend a top restaurant for lunch. Following your meal, you’ll proceed to your booked hotel for check-in, dinner, and your overnight stay.

Day 2: Transfer to Akagera National Park – Afternoon Game Drive & Sunset Boat Trip

After breakfast, your guide will pick you up for a scenic drive to the Eastern Province of Rwanda, home to Akagera National Park. Upon arrival, you’ll register at the park reception and check in to your lodge for lunch.

In the afternoon, enjoy a game drive in the southern part of the park, where you’ll spot animals like zebras, buffaloes, antelopes, and various bird species. Later, head to Lake Ihema for a sunset boat cruise, one of the most beautiful experiences in Akagera, featuring sightings of hippos, crocodiles, and water birds. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 3: Full-Day Game Drive in Akagera National Park

Enjoy a hearty breakfast at your lodge before embarking on a full-day game drive through Akagera National Park. This is your chance to see a wide variety of wildlife, including elephants, lions, giraffes, buffaloes, zebras, antelopes, and an impressive selection of birds.

Your guide will take you to the best viewing spots and suggest a perfect picnic location for lunch. After a thrilling day of wildlife viewing, return to the lodge for dinner and a restful overnight stay.

Day 4: Transfer to Volcanoes National Park

After a leisurely breakfast, check out and begin your journey to Volcanoes National Park in the northwestern province of Rwanda. The drive passes through Kigali, where you will stop for lunch. After the break, continue through the scenic countryside until you reach your lodge near Volcanoes National Park. Check in, relax, and enjoy dinner and your overnight stay.

Day 5: Gorilla Trekking in Volcanoes National Park

This is the highlight of your safari. After an early breakfast, with a packed lunch from the lodge, your guide will transfer you to the Volcanoes National Park headquarters for a briefing on gorilla trekking etiquette.

You’ll then proceed to the forest edge and begin your guided gorilla trekking experience. Once you find the gorilla family, you’ll spend one magical hour observing and photographing these incredible creatures. After the trek, return to your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 6: Golden Monkey Trekking

Begin your day with an early breakfast and a packed lunch from the lodge. Your guide will take you to the park office for a briefing on golden monkey trekking, followed by a hike into the forest with a local guide.

Golden monkeys are playful and fast-moving, making for an exciting and interactive trek. You’ll have time to observe and photograph them in their natural habitat. After the trek, return to your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 7: Drive Back to Kigali – Departure

After breakfast, check out from your lodge and begin your return drive to Kigali. Depending on your flight time or travel plans, your driver-guide will drop you off at the airport or at your hotel/home in Kigali. This marks the end of your unforgettable 7-day Rwandan safari.
