Kigali International Airport

Kigali International Airport (KGL) is the primary airport of Rwanda, serving as the main entry point for international travelers. Located about 12 kilometers (7.5 miles) east of Kigali, the capital city, this airport is a key hub for business, tourism, and cargo transportation. History and Development

Originally known as Kanombe International Airport, Kigali International Airport was built during the colonial era and has undergone several upgrades to meet the growing demands of aviation. In recent years, Rwanda has been developing a new airport—Bugesera International Airport, which is expected to replace Kigali International Airport as the country’s primary aviation hub in the future. However, until its completion, Kigali International Airport remains the main gateway to Rwanda.

Kigali International Airport consists of three terminals:

  1. Main Terminal – Handles international and domestic flights.
  2. VIP Terminal – Used for diplomatic and government officials.
  3. Cargo Terminal – Dedicated to freight and cargo operations.
